BEARing
Gifts
Volunteers are needed during the month of December to sort gifts for
over 5,000 abused
and neglected children under the care of Child Protective Services
in Harris County.
A
drab warehouse turns into Santa’s workshop as over 15,000 gifts
are received
and sorted for each child. It is the goal of BEAR to provide each
child with three gifts. If a child’s wishes are not filled,
volunteers will select gifts from a well-stocked supply in order to
meet these goals.
Activities
like this make such a huge difference in the lives of children. This
last year we heard a particularly poignant story of an adult who spent
her pre-teen and teen years in CPS custody. She shared with us that
she remembered filling out her wish list and her joy at receiving
the watch that was on her list. She went on to say that she still
had the watch and would always treasure it as a symbol of caring.
